What I learned in my lesson today

Today, in my lesson we worked mostly on volleys, but tweeked my forehand and serve some too.
On my forehand, all I need to remember is to let my wrist free so that I can get the extra pace and spin that I want on the ball.
On 1st and 2nd serves I also need to keep a free wrist so that I can snap more at the ball.
Also on my 1st serves, it is all about the toss not being too far left, but in a line with my target and in front of me.
It is pretty much the same for second serves, definitely keeping a LOOSE wrist and not putting the toss too far back.
Overheads we touched on lightly, All I need to remember is to hit the ball a little flatter. (which I can practice by hitting the ball to the ad side of the opposite court.
Volleys were much better today because of one little exercise. John handcuffed me. This helped me to feel how I need to turn my body and keep my hands pretty close together on both sides, waiting for the ball to come to me instead of going to it.
Also I need to lead with my hand and the butt of the racket so that the racket head never gets ahead of my hand.
Overall it was a great lesson and I know that I can work on all of these things to improve them on my own. |
